Here are some New Year Resolutions for writers.
- Take a moment and jot down your writing goals for 2007. The act of committing these goals to paper is the first step in a successful writing year. Post them in a prominent place near your computer and they'll help keep you on track when you get distracted.
- Establish a routine writing time even if it's only fifteen minutes. Once habits are developed it is easier to gear yourself toward producing real work if life means you have limited time to devote to the practice.
- Plan to attend one writers conference. Choose one with speakers that fit your type of writing and skill level. The tips you'll receive and the opportunity to network with other writers is invaluable in your growth as an artist. Plus most writers find attending a conference helps them recommit to the goals they have established for the year.
- READ! Develop a reading list for yourself that includes a mix of books on craft and books in the area you are most interested in writing.Yes, it requires more time from an already busy schedule, but as you read about how others execute you'll pick up important ways to improve your own work.
- If you are submitting work for publication please check the web site for the place you're approaching and make sure you follow their submission guidelines. Markets change and so do submission requirements so make sure you give yourself every edge and work with current information.
